Text Actions Overview

Text actions give you precise control over text alignment within shapes, helping you create polished, professional-looking presentations with consistent text formatting.

Why Use Text Actions?

  • Precision: Align text within shapes exactly as you want
  • Consistency: Apply the same text alignment to multiple shapes at once
  • Speed: Change text alignment for dozens of shapes in one click
  • Professional: Create uniform, well-formatted text layouts

Text actions control how text aligns within shapes. For aligning the shapes themselves, use Align Actions.

Text Alignment Categories

Horizontal Text Alignment

Control how text aligns horizontally within text boxes:

  • Text Align Left: Left-align text

How Text Alignment Works

Text alignment acts on all selected shapes that contain text:

  1. Select one or more shapes with text
  2. Choose a text alignment action
  3. Text within all selected shapes aligns accordingly

Important Notes:

  • Works on text boxes, shapes with text, and table cells
  • Does not affect shapes without text
  • Can combine horizontal and vertical alignment

Common Use Cases

Centering Headings

1. Select all heading text boxes
2. Text Align Center (horizontal)
3. Text Align Middle (vertical)

Result: Perfectly centered headings

Left-Aligning Body Text

1. Select all body text shapes
2. Text Align Left
3. Text Align Top

Result: Standard left-aligned, top-anchored paragraphs

Right-Aligning Numbers

1. Select shapes with numerical data
2. Text Align Right

Result: Numbers align on the right (easier to compare values)

Creating Button Text

1. Select button shapes
2. Text Align Center (horizontal)
3. Text Align Middle (vertical)

Result: Text perfectly centered in buttons

Text vs. Shape Alignment

It's important to understand the difference:

Text AlignmentShape Alignment
Aligns text within a shapeAligns shapes to each other
Changes text position in text boxChanges shape position on slide
Acts on text contentActs on shape objects
Use: Text formattingUse: Layout organization

Example:

Text Align Center: Align Center:
┌─────────┐ ┌──────┐
│ TEXT │ ┌──────┐
└─────────┘ ┌──────┐
(Text centered (Shapes centered
in its box) relative to each other)

Combining Text Actions

You can combine horizontal and vertical alignment:

Centered Text

Text Align Center + Text Align Middle

Result: Text centered both horizontally and vertically

Top-Left Text

Text Align Left + Text Align Top

Result: Text in top-left corner of text box

Bottom-Right Text

Text Align Right + Text Align Bottom

Result: Text in bottom-right corner of text box

Using with Other Actions

Text Align + Shape Align

Create perfectly aligned layouts:

Text Align + AI Assistant

Use natural language:

"Center all text in these shapes"
"Left-align all bullet points"
"Make all headings centered and bold"

The AI understands text alignment commands.

Tips & Best Practices

1. Align Before Formatting

Recommended workflow:

1. Add text to shapes
2. Align text (Text Align actions)
3. Format text (fonts, colors, sizes)

2. Use Consistent Alignment

For professional presentations:

  • Headings: Center or Left
  • Body text: Left or Justify
  • Numbers: Right
  • Buttons: Center + Middle

3. Consider Text Box Auto-Sizing

If text doesn't align as expected:

  • Check if text box auto-resize is enabled
  • Adjust text margins
  • Use Get/Set Text Margin for consistency

4. Bulk Text Alignment

For presentations with many text boxes:

1. Select all shapes with similar text (e.g., all headings)
2. Apply text alignment once

Saves time compared to formatting individually.
