# Use external tools in offgen (MCP connectors)

Connect an external MCP server to offgen so the agent can use its tools in chat.

Source: https://www.offgen.ai/docs/mcp-connectors

Connect a remote MCP server, such as your ticketing or CRM tool, and the offgen agent can call its tools: in Chat in the web app and in the [AI Agent](/docs/agent) in PowerPoint. This is the opposite direction of [connecting an AI assistant to offgen](/docs/mcp).

**Where:** [Settings → Integrations → MCP connectors](https://app.offgen.ai/settings/connectors) at app.offgen.ai · **Who:** all members for their own connectors. Owners and Admins for connectors shared with the organization.

> Only connect servers you trust. The agent can read data and take actions through a connected server without asking first.

## Add a connector

1. Open [MCP connectors](https://app.offgen.ai/settings/connectors) and select **Add connector**.
2. Enter a **Name** and the **Server URL**. The server must use HTTPS and Streamable HTTP.
3. Under **Authentication**, choose **OAuth**, **API key** or **None**. For an API key, also set the **Header**, for example `Authorization: Bearer` or `X-API-Key`.
4. Owners and Admins choose who can use it under **Available to**: **Only me** or **Everyone in my organization**.
5. Select **Connect**. offgen checks the connection when it saves.
6. For OAuth, select **Sign in** and sign in to the external service.

When an Admin shares an OAuth connector, everyone sees it and signs in with their own account. A shared API key connector uses the key the Admin entered for everyone.

## Use it in chat

Every connector you can see is on in every chat. In Chat in the web app, open the **+** menu and use **Connectors** to switch one off for that chat. The AI Agent in PowerPoint always uses all of them. Steps that call a connector show **Used** and the connector's name.

## Manage a connector

Open a connector to see its status and its **Tools**. Turned-off tools are never shown to the agent. Only the connector's owner can switch tools, and for shared connectors that means an Owner or Admin.

| Status | What to do |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Connected** | Nothing. |
| **Needs sign-in** | Select **Sign in**. |
| **Sign-in expires soon** | Select **Reconnect**. |
| **Unreachable** | Check the URL and the server, then select **Test connection**. |
| **Not verified yet** | Select **Test connection**. |

**Edit** changes the settings, **Sign out** removes your sign-in, and **Remove** deletes the connector and its stored credentials. Removing a shared connector removes it for everyone.
